Donut is a collaborative project by Alexandru Murar and Anette Leegaard, developed at our studio Skuret on Bornholm. The work explores how traditional ceramic craftsmanship can merge with modern digital tools to achieve new levels of precision, reproducibility, and expression.
Digital precision meets hand-thrown origins.
Bringing our complementary skills together, Alexandru as the wheel-thrower and Anette as the digital modeler, we transformed a hand-thrown teapot into a refined functional sculpture. Using Rhino 3D, resin 3D printing, and plaster mold making, the design evolved from an artisanal prototype into a form suitable for small series production, released in limited, collectible studio editions.
Familiar - yet anew.
Donut derives from the iconic torus shape — playful, familiar, and perfectly balanced between sculptural clarity and functional intent. It reflects our ongoing search for a fine
equilibrium between the figurative and the functional, proposing an intuitive and sensorial user experience.
Each object is cast in porcelain and fitted with a wooden lid made from walnut or ash. Donut is reduction-fired, a technique chosen in coherence with the porcelain body and for the subtle depth of color it gives to glazes.
Intention, balance, and material depth from the very beginning.
We've been searching for a form that feels inevitable, a sculptural gesture in service of use. Iconic, humorous, yet fresh and clear.
Ceramics and wood each hold their own autonomy, but can they meet in a way that enhances both? As we moved deeper into the process these choices guided every decision we made.
Staying close to the making.
All pieces are produced and assembled by hand in small batches at our studio in Nexø. Alongside standard editions, we plan special limited runs, exploring variations in glazes, surface treatments, and firing methods.
As part of the product design, we also developed a custom packaging solution and an accompanying certificate, conceived to complement the Donut’s form and communicate its material and making process.
Integrative, functional, collectable.
Donut demonstrates how technology can enhance, but not replace craftsmanship. It embodies our design language, balances humor and elegance, sharing our vision into a sculptural pouring object.
Donut is not only made to serve, but also to inhabit space. Whether placed at the center of the table or displayed in a collection, it becomes a striking element in any interior.
To ensure authenticity, each Donut is individually hand-marked on the base with its series designation, and edition number.
